Great scenes

In the world of the movies, it's all about the scene.  Here I've assembled some of my favorites ... thanks to the miracle of YouTube.  Hurry and enjoy, before somebody makes me take them down.

Jan Hooks and Paul Reubens are just perfect for each  other, in a scene from my favorite film comedy of the 1990s.  Directed by Tim Burton, who made several wonderful smaller films early in his career.

Terrence Malick's Badlands is a beautiful, hypnotic, haunting and disturbing masterpiece.

One of my favorite movies of all time is Robert Altman's Nashville.  Ronee Blakley is brilliant and heartbreaking, but then hey, so is every other single person in the entire enormous cast.  What a movie!  (Sorry about the subtitles.)

The citizens of the Emerald City were the first to know:  it's not easy being green.  It wasn't enough just to want to see Uncle Henry and Auntie Em, Dorothy has learned:  she has to stay home for the rest of her life.  The Good Witch agrees.  The whole damn thing is too depressing for words.

I am a fan of modern design so it's no surprise I am also a huge fan of Hitchcock's 50s thrillers, which are as sleek and elegant as a Saarinen building or a van der Rohe chair.  The title sequence showcases the work of Saul Bass, who designed it, and Bernard Herrmann who wrote the masterful score.  .

You gotta admit, this girl has it.  If she sticks to her singing she can probably go a long way....
